Tips: set up mysql 3.23.52 on solaris 2.8



 
    
set up mysql 3.23.52 on solaris 2.8
-----------------------------------

1. download the binary and untar it to /usr/local directory

2. add mysql user and group

[root@avon local]# groupadd mysql

[root@avon local]# useradd -g mysql mysql

3. create link to mysql and change the user:group to mysql

[root@avon local]# ls -al
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     other         34 Dec 12 12:42 mysql -> mysql-3.23.52-sun-solaris2.8-sparc
drwxr-xr-x  11 mysql    mysql        512 Dec 12 12:42 mysql-3.23.52-sun-solaris2.8-sparc

4. make sure correct host ip and name in /etc/hosts

[root@avon local]# cat /etc/hosts 
#
# Internet host table
#
127.0.0.1       localhost       
137.111.20.187  avon.its.unimacq.edu.au avon

5. put mysql.server to /etc/init.d directory

[root@avon local]# ls -al /etc/init.d/mysqld 
-rwxr--r--   1 root     sys         4392 Dec 12 13:03 /etc/init.d/mysqld

[root@avon local]# ls -al /etc/rc2.d/S99mysqld 
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     other         16 Dec 12 13:31 /etc/rc2.d/S99mysqld -> ../init.d/mysqld

6. start mysql and set up password for all root login

[root@avon rc2.d]# cd /usr/local/mysql

[root@avon mysql]# ./bin/mysqladmin -u root  password 'password for root'

[root@avon mysql]# bin/mysql -u root -p mysql
Enter password: 
Reading table information for completion of table and column names
You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -A

7. Add anther user

mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
